Medicated weight loss programme

Dalys Pharmacy now provide a  Medicated weight loss programme for qualifying patients.

For patients with a BMI > 30kg/m2 (or >27kg/m2 with other weight related conditions) we can presently offer the Saxenda weight loss injection and will be able to offer the Wegovy injection, once Wegovy is approved for use in the UK. (please ask the pharmacist regarding availability)

This involves an initial consultation with a pharmacist & if appropriate the weight loss injection can be approved for use. Follow up consultations will be carried out to monitor progress.

Saxenda / Weogvy work by interacting with hormones that control appetite, making you feel fuller and less hungry. They are similar to the human hormone GLP-1, which regulates hunger. They also slow down the emptying of your stomach contents, which helps you feel fuller after eating, therefore helping you to eat less food & thus reduce your body weight.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency hormonal contraception containing the hormone levonorgestrel and commonly known as the “morning after pill” is available from Dalys Pharmacy either with or without a prescription.

You need to take the emergency contraceptive pill within 3 days (Levonelle) or 5 days (ellaOne) of unprotected sex for it to be effective – the sooner you take it, the more effective it’ll be.

Taken as a single pill, emergency hormonal contraception works by stopping a pregnancy before it becomes established by:

  • Delaying ovulation or the release of an egg
  • Preventing fertilisation of an egg that may already have been released
  • Stopping a fertilised egg from embedding within the lining of the womb

Emergency hormonal contraception is not an abortifacient, meaning it will not cause the abortion of a fertilised egg which has already attached itself to the womb; therefore it must be taken within 72 hours (Levonelle) or 120 hours (ellaOne) of having unprotected sex and ideally within 24 hours when it is most effective.

We appreciate the trust our customers place in us when dealing with private and often sensitive healthcare matters. If you need emergency hormonal contraceptive advice you can speak with a Pharmacist, either in the Pharmacy, or informally by phone. Direct dial numbers can be found on our website. After a more formal, but discreet and private consultation, within the Pharmacy, if it is considered both safe and appropriate, we can provide you with this form of contraception.

We will never ask you about the circumstances which have led to you seeking contraception advice but we will need to ask you some general medical questions to make sure emergency hormonal contraception is suitable for you to take. Emergency hormonal contraception is extremely safe with no serious side effects and if it was to fail, and you become pregnant, it has not been shown to affect the pregnancy or harm the developing baby in anyway.

Remember this form of contraception should not be used on a regular basis as a first choice method of contraception. We stock a full range of contraceptive products and our Pharmacy staff can advise you on the many options available to you.

Seasonal Flu

Dalys Pharmacy have trained pharmacists available to provide flu vaccinations within the pharmacy for any individual over 18 years of age.

If you don’t qualify for a NHS seasonal flu vaccination, we can help keep you healthy and well with our in local seasonal flu vaccination service saving you a trip to your Health Centre or Doctor.

Apart from the serious ill effects of catching influenza, millions of working days are lost each year with seasonal flu. If you cannot afford that time off work or are worried about potentially passing the flu to family friends and associates then book a vaccination with a member of the Pharmacy team to protect yourself and others.

Strep A
Sore Throat

Test & Treat

Dalys Pharmacy are delighted to introduce this new service for Northern Ireland.

Patients with a sore throat can now present in our Pharmacy and have a Strep A test done to determine whether the infection is bacterial or viral.

The test involves swabbing the throat and then testing the swab. In approximately 10 minutes the results will show either positive or negative for bacterial infection.

If positive we can then supply Penicillin to treat the infection without the need to see your doctor.

There is a charge for the test and a further charge for the antibiotic, only if required. This is a drop in service but we encourage patients to call first to check availability.

Ear Infection

Test & Treat

Dalys Pharmacy can treat uncomplicated outer ear infections (Otitis Externa) following examination with an otoscope.

Otitis Externa is an infection of the outer opening of the ear and ear canal that connects the eardrum to the outside ear. It is caused by bacteria or fungi.

Commonly known as Swimmer’s ear, the symptoms are mild initially and can worsen if left untreated.

The goal of treatment is to stop the infection and allow the ear canal to heal. Treatment includes the use of antibiotics, steroids, antifungal medicines.

Urinary Tract Infection

Test & Treat

Speak with a Dalys Pharmacy Pharmacist if you suspect you may have a urinary tract infection

Patients with suspected urinary tract infections can have a dip test done to determine the likely presence of an infection. If positive, we can supply a course of antibiotics (additional fee).

Please note this service is only available to women aged between 18 – 65 following a consultation to assess eligibility.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common infections that can affect any part of your urinary system, including your kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. UTIs are usually caused by bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina.

It is estimated that around half of all women in the UK have had a UTI. Symptoms of a UTI include pain or a burning sensation when urinating, needing to urinate more often than usual and feeling unwell

Skin Infection (Impetigo)

Test & Treat

Following a consultation, Dalys Pharmacy can supply an antibiotic cream to treat and prevent transmission of non-severe impetigo.

Impetigo is a common and highly contagious bacterial skin infection that mainly affects infants and young children. It usually appears as reddish sores on the face, especially around the nose, mouth, hands and feet. Over about a week, the sores burst and develop honey-coloured crusts.

The infection is usually caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. It can be spread through direct contact with an infected person or by touching contaminated objects
